Finding the 2012 Mercedes Sprinter OBD2 Port: Location and Solutions

For owners of the 2012 Mercedes Sprinter, accessing the OBD2 port for diagnostics or connecting devices like ScanGauge II can be a bit tricky. Unlike some vehicles with easily accessible ports, the Sprinter’s OBD2 port location is somewhat hidden. This becomes apparent when you need to keep an OBD2 device plugged in while driving.

The 2012 Sprinter OBD2 port is located behind the driver’s side kick panel, beneath the dashboard. It’s concealed by a small, hinged door. This design is fine for occasional access, but it’s less convenient for devices with cables. The problem is that the hinged door cannot be closed with an OBD2 cable connected. This results in the door hanging down, which can obstruct the driver’s foot space and become bothersome.

If you intend to use a permanently connected OBD2 scanner, this location presents a challenge. While removing the kick panel might seem like a solution, it’s not ideal. Finding workarounds for the OBD2 cable and the door is key for a more practical setup. Sprinter owners often seek solutions that avoid vehicle modifications while allowing continuous OBD2 device use.
