AlfaOBD is versatile, available for both Windows PC (XP, 8, 8.1, 10, 11) and Android (4.0.3 and later) platforms. Functionality is consistent across both versions, making the choice primarily about user preference.
Important Note: Be aware that an “Alfa OBD2 app” exists on the Apple App Store, but it is not associated with AlfaOBD and is a separate product.
For Mac users, the Windows version of AlfaOBD can be run via Parallels or Bootcamp. However, on M1 Macs using Parallels, only WiFi OBD interfaces are compatible. Intel Macs with Parallels support both USB and WiFi interfaces, while Bootcamp installations on Intel Macs allow for Bluetooth, USB, and WiFi OBD interfaces.

1. Security Gateway Bypass (SGW) – For 2018 and Newer Models:
Since 2018 (starting with the 2017 Fiat 500L), Stellantis (FCA) vehicles are equipped with a Security Gateway Module (SGW) that restricts unauthorized diagnostic access. Currently, AlfaOBD does not offer a software bypass solution. Therefore, a hardware SGW bypass module is necessary.
Owners of specific models like Alfa Romeo Giulia/Stelvio, Fiat 500X/Argo/Chronos/Toro, Jeep Renegade/Compass MP, Ducato Serie 8, and RAM ProMaster 2022+ should ensure their bypass module supports the second high-speed CAN bus, connected to pins 12 and 13 of the OBD socket.

2. OBD Interface:
An OBD interface is essential to establish communication between your vehicle and the AlfaOBD software.

AlfaOBD supports various interface types:
- USB OBD Interfaces: Reliable wired connection for Windows and Android (via OTG for Android CAN USB interfaces). Note: K-Line USB interfaces are not supported on Android.
- Bluetooth OBD Interfaces: Wireless convenience for Windows and some compatibility with Android.
- WiFi OBD Interfaces: Wireless connectivity for Windows and Android. Some WiFi interfaces have native Android support (e.g., OBDLink MX+ WiFi). For others, Android ad-hoc Wi-Fi support may be required, potentially needing device rooting and modified Wi-Fi drivers. 3. Colored Adapters:

AlfaOBD intelligently indicates the necessary adapter type and suggested OBD interface on its selection screen when connecting to a control module. It also displays “Connect adapter…” prompts.
Important: “Blue” adapters are not needed when using OBDLink MX+/EX, ELS27, or Vgate vLinker FD/FD+/MC/MC+/FS interfaces. Dismiss the “Connect blue adapter” prompt in these cases.
