The BIM-01-2 OBD-II (J1850/CAN) Interface is your direct link to accessing a wealth of information from your vehicle’s engine computer (ECM) through the diagnostic port. This powerful module seamlessly extracts crucial engine and transmission data, making it an indispensable tool for monitoring your vehicle’s performance. Designed for easy integration, the BIM-01-2 effortlessly connects to Dakota Digital Instrument Systems* to display real-time data.
Compatible with a wide range of vehicles, the BIM-01-2 supports both J1850 and CAN OBD-II protocols**, ensuring broad applicability. Out of the box, you can monitor essential data points on most compatible vehicles, including***:
- Speedometer: Track your vehicle’s speed with precision.
- Tachometer: Monitor engine RPM for optimal performance.
- Engine Temperature: Keep an eye on your engine’s coolant temperature to prevent overheating.
- Check Engine Indicator: Stay informed about potential engine issues.
Beyond these standard readings, the BIM-01-2 can also access vehicle-specific data, depending on your ECM and sensor configuration****. This may include valuable metrics such as:
- Intake Air Temperature: Monitor the temperature of the air entering your engine.
- Transmission Temperature: Essential for maintaining optimal transmission health, especially under heavy loads.
- Ambient Air Temperature: Get real-time readings of the outside temperature.
- Gear Position: Know exactly what gear your vehicle is in.
- Oil Pressure: Ensure your engine is properly lubricated.
- Boost Pressure: For turbocharged vehicles, monitor boost levels for peak performance.
It’s important to note that while the BIM-01-2 is designed to decode and output a wide array of data, the availability and accuracy of certain parameters (Intake Temp, Transmission Temp, Ambient Air Temp, Oil Pressure, Boost, and Gear Position) are contingent on your vehicle’s ECM and the presence of functional OEM sensors. Dakota Digital cannot guarantee the presence or accuracy of these vehicle-specific data points as they are determined by the factory ECM configuration.
The BIM-01-2 is specifically engineered to interface with Dakota Digital GRFX, RTX, HDX, VHX, and VFD3 systems that utilize a black plastic control module. For BIM-compatible control boxes featuring a 3.5mm headphone jack BIM input, the 394194 adaptor harness (sold separately) is required. Please be aware that earlier instrument systems with an aluminum control module are not compatible with BIM connectivity.
This interface is compatible with OBD-II protocols SAE J1850 VPW, SAE J1850 PWM, and ISO 15765 CAN 500k 11-bit identifiers following the SAE J1979 PID protocol. If you have any questions regarding the compatibility of the BIM-01-2 with your specific vehicle, please do not hesitate to contact our sales or tech department for expert assistance.
**** Please note that GM Connect & Cruise packages typically do not transmit gear position data, which will prevent the BIM-01-2 from displaying this specific information.
