It’s time to say goodbye to my trusty 1997 4-door Ford Escort 2.0L, manual transmission. After 25 years of service in Ontario, the chassis has unfortunately succumbed to rust, making it unsafe for further driving. However, rather than see this reliable vehicle go to waste, I’m offering its parts to fellow Ford enthusiasts and anyone in need of quality, used auto components.
While the body shows its age in some areas, particularly the rocker panels and rear end which sustained damage in a hit-and-run incident back in 2017, many parts are still in good working order. Despite some past bodywork in 2016 to address floor and rocker panel rust, and the ongoing battle with exhaust system corrosion (multiple replacements over the years!), the front end, including the Car Doors Parts, fenders, and bumper, are surprisingly well-preserved. The headlights might be a bit yellowed with age, but the doors themselves are in quite good shape, considering the car’s age and history. All windows are intact, and the rear defrost is functional.
Mechanically, this Escort is robust. The 2.0L single overhead cam engine runs exceptionally well, just as strong as when I first bought the car back in 1997. With approximately 270,000km on the clock, it has been regularly maintained. The timing belt and water pump were replaced around 30,000 km ago using Gates brand components. The clutch is original but still operates effectively, and the transmission shifts smoothly, although the shift linkage is a bit loose, a common issue with these models. I’ve replaced the bushings, but there’s a joint that appears permanently attached and has some play. While there is a minor oil leak from the engine’s bottom end, it’s not significant. Key mechanical work includes brake lines replaced in 2010 and again in 2015 (rear lines), with a front line replacement in 2021. Rear struts were replaced in 2013, and strut mounts in 2016. More recently, in 2020, the steering rack lines and bushings, along with the front shocks, were replaced. The used plastic fuel tank, sourced from a 1994 Escort and installed around 2014, remains in good condition.
Inside, the headliner is sagging, a typical issue for cars of this era. However, other interior components might still be useful.
If you’re looking for car doors parts for a Ford Escort, or any other components from this 1997 model – be it body panels, mechanical parts, or interior trim – please get in touch. The red exterior and tan interior parts are available. I lack the equipment to remove the engine and transmission myself, but am open to selling parts individually or the entire car to someone who can utilize it. The car was driveable until very recently, and is now located in Toronto and needs to be moved soon. Don’t let these good parts go to waste! Contact me to discuss your needs and make an offer.
