What’s Included in Your External OBD2 COP Kit?

Your purchase includes our state-of-the-art external coil on plug control module and an OBD-specific patch harness. This harness is expertly crafted to integrate flawlessly into your vehicle’s existing wiring system, utilizing an easy, two-plug connection. We offer patch harnesses tailored to each OBD type: OBD1, OBD2A, and OBD2B. Prior to ordering, it’s essential to verify your vehicle’s OBD connection style to ensure compatibility.

For added convenience and a cleaner installation, we offer an optional battery location mount specifically designed for the control module. While this mount is not mandatory, it provides a quick and easy mounting solution. Alternatively, you can securely mount the control module directly to the chassis as many users prefer.

Important Considerations for Coil On Plug Conversion

Converting to coil on plug ignition with our kit assumes you have a functioning distributor and ECU with wiring in good working order. Our system cleverly bypasses the stock coil and ICM ignitor, allowing you to remove the distributor cap and rotor and install a sleek, low-profile billet cap. By bypassing these components, you can effectively extend the lifespan of an aging OEM distributor or utilize an aftermarket unit, eliminating the commonly failing OEM parts from the ignition system.

Synchronization Requirement: Our kit incorporates a synchronization procedure for optimal performance and reliability. Upon initial startup, the engine will turn over for a minimum of one to two complete revolutions. This process is necessary to confirm engine position before initiating spark into the cylinders.

Ignition Timing: We highly recommend checking your ignition timing with a timing light after installation, especially if you are using an aftermarket distributor. Bypassing a malfunctioning coil or ICM ignitor can potentially alter the ignition timing once these components are removed from the ignition circuit.

Resistor Spark Plugs: It is mandatory to use resistor spark plugs with this kit, as with any coil on plug ignition system. This is crucial for proper system operation and to prevent electrical interference.

Coil Connectors: Our harness is constructed using early model K series style coil connectors. These connectors are compatible with 01-06 K20/K24 and D17 coil packs, offering a wide selection of readily available and affordable coil options.
