Important Note Regarding OBD2 and Garmin eLog Compatibility: It’s crucial to understand that Garmin eLog is NOT compatible with vehicles using the OBD2 protocol (SAE J1979), which is commonly found in passenger vehicles and lighter-duty trucks. Garmin eLog is specifically designed for the heavy-duty trucking industry, utilizing the J1939 and J1708 protocols prevalent in semi-trucks. While the term “OBD2” might sometimes be used broadly, for ELD purposes and Garmin eLog compatibility, it’s essential to recognize this distinction. Volvo Trucks with a Volvo engine and a 16-pin J1962 configuration will require a 16-pin to 9-pin adapter cable, which is sold separately.

For added convenience, the Garmin eLog integrates seamlessly with many Garmin dēzl GPS truck navigators (available separately), including models like the dēzl 580, dēzl 780, and dēzlCam 785. Please note that some dēzl navigators may require a smartphone or tablet connection¹ to display remaining hours.
