Milliron Auto Parts Car Parts: Celebrating 70 Years of Automotive Excellence in Shelby

For seven decades, Milliron Auto Parts has been a cornerstone of the Shelby, Ohio community, providing reliable Milliron Auto Parts Car Parts and exceptional service. What began in 1953 with a mere $1,000, innovative thinking, and a bold entrepreneurial spirit has blossomed into a thriving business celebrating its 70th anniversary.

The story of Milliron Auto Parts is a testament to the vision and hard work of its founder, Grant Milliron. With a modest investment comprised of savings accumulated with his father, Grant purchased 12 salvaged vehicles and a 1936 Ford truck. This initial inventory laid the foundation for what would become a local institution for car parts. In the early days, Grant juggled the demanding task of building his auto parts venture while working full-time at a steel mill, dedicating seven days a week to both endeavors. His unwavering commitment led him to take a leap of faith in 1957, leaving his mill job to fully dedicate himself to Milliron Auto Parts.

Seventy years later, Milliron Auto Parts stands as a sprawling operation extending across 15 acres off State Route 39. The milestone anniversary was recently commemorated with community leaders joining the Milliron team in celebration.

Richland County Commissioner Tony Vero lauded the business and its legacy. “The Milliron name and Milliron business is a staple in the Shelby community,” Vero stated, emphasizing the company’s enduring presence. “I think that’s proven since you’ve been in business for 70 years.” He extended his congratulations and well wishes for continued success in the decades to come.

Shelby Mayor Steve Schag echoed these sentiments, acknowledging Milliron’s significant contributions to the city. “This place has been a Godsend for so many families that come here who find a way to keep their automobiles running,” Schag remarked. He further recognized the Milliron family’s profound impact on the county and expressed his hopes for their continued prosperity.

A Commitment to Customers and Community Continues

The legacy of Milliron Auto Parts is now being carried forward by owner Jim McKinney, who initially acquired 50% of the business in 2021 and has since become the full owner. McKinney’s journey with Milliron’s began 25 years prior when he was hired by Karl Milliron, Grant’s son, as a dismantler, taking apart cars for their valuable used auto parts. “It’s very humbling to come this far and now be the caretaker of the business,” McKinney reflected. He pledged to uphold the values established by the Milliron family, stating, “We will do our best to fill the shoes of the Milliron family, although we will not succeed.” He affirmed his commitment to maintaining the same dedication to customers, employees, and the community that has defined Milliron Auto Parts for decades.

The partnership between Jim McKinney and Karl Milliron extends beyond Milliron Auto Parts. They are also collaborators in the software company EZ-Suite, showcasing the diverse entrepreneurial spirit nurtured within the Milliron business ecosystem. McKinney acknowledges Karl’s mentorship, stating, “Karl’s like my big brother. He took me under his wing and helped me get to where I am today.” He further highlighted the ripple effect of the auto parts business, noting, “The auto parts business really launched many other endeavors including a landfill trash business, a trucking company and the software.” All of these ventures, he emphasized, originated from Grant Milliron’s initial investment in salvaged cars 70 years ago.

Karl Milliron reflected on the growth of the company, noting its expansion from five employees 30 years ago to a current team of 24. “This has been a seed company for every expansion and derivative business,” Karl explained. He detailed the progression from auto parts to scrap metal processing and recycling, and then into waste management, illustrating how the core car parts business fueled significant growth and diversification.
