For owners of classic vehicles, sourcing parts can often be a significant challenge. However, when it comes to iconic marques like Ferrari, the process is surprisingly streamlined, showcasing the brand’s dedication to its heritage. Ferrari has historically maintained a robust system for supplying parts for older models, ensuring that these automotive legends remain on the road for enthusiasts worldwide.
Initially, Ferrari directly provides parts for its models for a decade after production ceases. Following this period, remaining inventories are transferred to Maranello Concesionaires in the UK, also known as Ferrari UK. Maranello Concesionaires continues to fulfill part orders from this acquired stock and retains the ability to commission further production from original suppliers, built to Ferrari’s exacting specifications. The scale of this operation is remarkable; it was once mentioned that Maranello Concesionaires processed a staggering 52 tons of inventory from the Ferrari 308 model alone. Even today, substantial stocks of components for models like the 308 and 328, including complete engines and transmissions, are reportedly still available. Owners of Testarossas, 512 BBs, Dinos, and 400 series Ferraris can also benefit from this ongoing parts availability through Maranello.
The Ferrari 308 serves as a prime example of this long-term parts commitment. Around the year 2000, nearly every component for this model was readily available through Maranello. While some parts have inevitably become depleted over time, the market has responded with reproductions of high-demand items such as turn signals and distributor caps. The quality of these reproduction parts can vary; some are excellent, potentially sourced from original equipment manufacturers, while others may be of lesser quality.
Interestingly, Ferrari has, for a period, retained the parts inventory for the 348 model internally, managing supply directly through its Ferrari North America (FNA) network, rather than transferring it to Maranello immediately.
For even older vintage Ferraris, dating back to the early 1970s and earlier, Ferrari has established the Ferrari Classiche program. This initiative focuses on remanufacturing parts for these historic vehicles, albeit typically at a premium price point. Even prior to the formalization of Ferrari Classiche, well-connected dealerships and service centers were often able to persuade Ferrari to produce components like new cylinder heads for these very early models, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to supporting even their most venerable cars.
Ferrari’s dedication to parts supply and service for its older models is exceptional within the automotive industry. While marques like Mercedes-Benz, Rolls-Royce, and Porsche may offer similar programs, it is a service rarely matched by US or Japanese manufacturers, underscoring Ferrari’s unique approach to preserving its rich automotive legacy and ensuring owners can continue to enjoy their classic cars for generations to come.
