I recently decided to replace the ignition coil in my Camry’s 3SFE engine as a preventative measure. Although the original 23-year-old coil was still functioning, its resistance was slightly out of specification. Having just acquired the car and diligently replaced other tune-up components with reputable brands like NGK and Denso, I opted to proactively replace the aging coil. Reasoning that an ignition coil either meets specifications or it doesn’t, I deviated from my usual practice of solely using Denso ignition parts and purchased an Ultrapower coil.
My initial impression upon receiving the Ultrapower part was disappointment. The packaging was a battered Delphi box, hastily relabeled with an “Ultrapower” sticker obscuring the original Delphi part number. Upon opening the box, a brand-new looking Toyota/Nippon Denso coil was loosely placed inside. This raised immediate questions. Was this a rebuilt unit? I had assumed I was purchasing a new part and was unaware that sealed ignition coils like this could even be rebuilt. However, the coil itself appeared too clean to be used. The possibility of it being a counterfeit also crossed my mind.
While the coil currently tests within acceptable parameters, the entire situation feels questionable. I’m seriously considering returning it due to these inconsistencies and the overall sense of something being amiss.
I am reaching out to the community to see if anyone has prior experience with Ultrapower car parts. My online searches have yielded limited information about this company, which seems to operate primarily through online retailers and offers a wide array of auto parts. While I confirmed that the part number is correct for my vehicle, I remain uncertain about the authenticity and quality of this Ultrapower ignition coil. Would you recommend returning this part given these circumstances? Your insights on Ultrapower brand and similar experiences would be greatly appreciated as I navigate the world of aftermarket car parts.
